Why this exists
OwnMyAddiction.com is a resource built from inside addiction, not from looking at it from the outside.
It is a resource for understanding addiction from every angle — factual information, practical tools, nonjudgmental perspectives, and a human layer of compassion without ignoring the realities of a drug-addicted life.
But the most important part is this: it is all stitched together by lived experience.
This site was not built to scare people away from drugs or remind them that those choices are bad. There is no guilt here. No shame. No fear tactics.
I was a drug addict, and I understand that I am not immune to falling. I know I could tumble back down that hole again if I stop paying attention. So I documented the questions I had, the answers I found, and the lessons I learned along the way. I compiled them here in the hope that they may help others on their own path.
If you are here reading this, it is probably for a reason. Maybe you are struggling with addiction yourself. Maybe you are here because of someone you love. Either way, the information here is for you.
A drug-addicted lifestyle creates fear, shame, guilt, confusion, and pain — not only for the person living it, but for the people around them. You can understand something deeply and still be afraid of it. Many people going through addiction, or loving someone who is, do not realize how much they already understand about what has happened.
But understanding can become a doorway.
With the right information, patience, compassion, forgiveness, and real effort, there is absolutely a pathway toward a better life. I can say that from personal experience.
If I could begin walking that path, anyone can.
