Find Support

There's more than one way to ask for help. Here are a few.

12-step meetings

Alcoholics Anonymous (AA)aa.org has a meeting finder for in-person and online meetings.

Narcotics Anonymous (NA)na.org, same idea, broader substance focus.

Not into the 12-step framing? Other options exist

This isn't an either/or. Plenty of people try more than one before something clicks.

  • SMART Recoverysmartrecovery.org. Secular, cognitive-behavioral approach.
  • LifeRing Secular Recoverylifering.org. Peer support, no higher-power language.
  • Recovery Dharma / Refuge Recovery — Buddhist-influenced, meditation-centered peer support.
  • Celebrate Recoverycelebraterecovery.com. Christian-based.
  • Women for Sobrietywomenforsobriety.org. Peer support specifically for women.

For family and friends

Al-Anonal-anon.org. For people affected by someone else's drinking. Alateen, for teenagers, usually meets alongside Al-Anon.

Nar-Anonnar-anon.org. Same idea, for families and friends affected by someone else's drug use.

If what you actually need is treatment

FindTreatment.gov — government-run directory of treatment facilities, searchable by location, insurance, and type of care.

SAMHSA National Helpline — free, confidential, 24/7
1-800-662-4357

You don't have to pick the right one on the first try. Most people don't.
